BOOM Esports start 2021 with a direct invite and a new member

Having departed with their position one carry player in early December of last year, BOOM Esports have already seen a fantastic start to 2021 with a direct invite into the upper division of the new DPC and a brand-new addition to their roster.

In early December 2020, Randy Muhammad “Dreamocel” Sapoetra ended his four-year partnership with BOOM Esports, leaving the roster without a position one carry player. While the team decided to not participate in any events for the remainder of the year, 2021 greeted them with a new player as well as a direct invite into the Upper Division of the Southeast Asia Dota 2 Pro Circuit. BOOM join the likes of TNC Predator, T1 and Fnatic to receive these direct invites, while other teams must progress through a series of tough open and closed qualifiers before having a shot at joining them. Announced via their Twitter account earlier today, BOOM also confirmed their newest member, replacing Dreamocel would be ex-Reality Rift player, Andrew “Drew” Halim.

2020 was a tough time for many Dota 2 organisations around the globe as the pandemic limited the tournaments and Valve gave very little in the way of information for new events. This led to a few organisations across the globe ceasing their Dota 2 operations – including that of Reality Rift. With the players departing back in September, BOOM have now confirmed that their newest member is one of the ex-RR stars, who will join them on their 2021 DPC journey.

  • Andrew “Drew” Halim
  • Ralfi Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman
  • Saieful “Fbz” Ilham
  • Brizio “Hyde” Adi Putra
  • Alfi “Khezcute” Nelphyana

Although not having a long list of accolades in his short Dota 2 career, BOOM Esports could be the perfect place for Drew to rise to stardom – especially considering the team’s rather amazing 2020 season and it will be interesting to see just how they play with their new addition.
