Counter-Strike Still Commands an Audience – Weekly Twitch Top 10s, Jan. 18-24

The 2021 esports season has kicked off in a big way. Between the full return of the major League of Legends leagues and a major Counter-Strike: Global Offensive championship, esports viewership led the week.

Twitch’s Top Channel – Gaules

As has become increasingly the norm for Valve esports, an alternate-language channel outpaces the main broadcast for the week. The Portuguese CS:GO broadcast channel Gaules claimed the week’s top spot in part due to its nonstop broadcast complete with match reruns, helping it generate 5.77M hours watched. Even the main broadcast of the weekend’s BLAST Premiere Global Final outpaced the typical weekly leaders, and a third alternate broadcast took home fourth place.

The LEC also kicked off its 2021 season, generating 2.77M hours watched on its main channel for the weekend.

Twitch’s Top Content – Just Chatting

Rust continues to be the main story on the content side, once again surpassing 33.71M hours watched. The major streamer shift to the survival title has also had a direct impact on Among Us, which has disappeared from the Top 10 entirely. It is clear that the collaboration meta is still alive and well, but it will likely continue to create large spikes coinciding with major dropoff as this same collective of influencers shifts from game to game.
