FIBA Signs Multi-Year Deal With Twitch

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year content deal with Twitch. As part of the deal, FIBA will broadcast approximately 600 hours of live basketball games from the federation every year and will also give Twitch users access to official footage to create their own content.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Frank Leenders, director general of FIBA Media and Marketing Services told Reuters that the company will spend some of the money from this deal on investments in creating interactivity during broadcasts and also to line up deals with co-streamers to further promote the league.

“It is not a platform like YouTube where you just stream your games and people consume. You have to use the specificity of Twitch which means you have to invest in interactivity and co-streamers who are very important influencers on the platform,” he told Reuters.

This deal with Twitch marks the first such partnership for the Amazon-woned streaming platform and an international sports league.
