HUNDEN, dead, and zoneR have been banned by ESL for using coaching bug – drama ensues

It’s been a rough 24 hours for Counter-Strike as multiple coaches have been found guilty of utilizing the coaching spectator bug during events leading to their temporary bans. This news came from ESL who had “recently concluded investigation into the exploitation of a spectating bug in ESL and DreamHack CS:GO tournaments,” which found Heroic’s Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen, MIBR’s Ricardo “dead” Sinigaglia and Hard Legion’s Aleksandr “zoneR” Bogatiryev banned.

The length of their bans all differ based on how they much were found guilty of using the bug.

Below is the moments they were found guilty of utilizing it:

  • Hard Legion, MechanoGun at ESL One Road to Rio on 6 maps in 3 matches
  • Heroic, HUNDEN at DreamHack Masters Spring in 10 rounds on 1 map
  • MIBR, dead at ESL One Road to Rio in 1 round on 1 map

And these are the punishments issued to both the coaches and their teams:

  • dead will receive a 6-month ban from playing or coaching in competition
  • HUNDEN will receive a 12-month ban from playing or coaching in competition
  • MechanoGun will receive a 24-month ban from playing or coaching in competition
  • The teams will retroactively be disqualified from the tournament in question
  • The teams will forfeit their ESL Pro Tour points from the tournament in question
  • The teams will forfeit their prize money from the tournament in question

Both Heroic and Hard Legion have already suspended and removed respectively their two coaches while MIBR has yet to make an official decision apart from saying they’re looking into it on their own. dead seems to be contesting his punishment although to what extent is not exactly clear as of now.

Regardless, many are now calling for more work to be done investigating the players to make sure they were not in on the scandal and if they were to give them proper punishment.

It’s unknown as to what the future may hold, but right now Counter-Strike is going through a bit of a dark period.
