OMEGA League: Asia Divine division play-in stage is set

The two week long group stage in the Asia competition of OMEGA League is done and dusted and unfortunately, it did not unfold without ugly incidents.

Half way through the group matches, WePlay! and Epic Esports Events announced an investigation into suspicious teams’ behavior in the Execration versus Cignal Ultra series. Earlier this week the organizers announced that they found no proof of a possible match fixing in that match, however, they ran an additional investigation which resulted in the Chinese team LING ER players  being disqualified and banned for one year from any WePlay! and Epic Esports Events tournaments.

The banned players are:

  • Yeo ”TigerCat” Chun Kiat
  • Wang “大猪” Jie
  • Law “眼高手低” Chee Hoong
  • Liew “Bee” Wei Hang
  • Hao “76561198125784995” Zeng

With LING ER out of the contention due to match-fixing, the battle for Group survival became easier as only the last placed team in each group would get eliminated with no chance at the playoffs. The first two teams in each group advance to the upper bracket semifinals, the third team secures a lower bracket spot, while the fourth and fifth placed teams from both groups will go to a play-in stage to determine who goes to the playoff lower bracket and who is eliminated.

In Group A, the Vietnamese team 496 Gaming delivered the biggest surprise, taking the top seed with a clean 5-0 overall performance. The second team in the group is Neon Esports, who are bound to start the playoffs with a new offlane player, after Samson Enojosa “Sam_H” Hidalgo left the team right after their last series in the group play.

Cignal Ultra is the team to end itsOMEGA League journey in the group stage, and unfortunately, they are out of the competition without a single victory to their name.

The top two placed squads in Group B are Aster.Aries and For The Dream, who will join 496 Gaming and Neon Esports in the playoffs upper bracket. DeMonster will join Reality Rift from Group A in the lower bracket, while Blaze and EHOME Immortal will advance into the play-in stage where they are given a final chance at the playoffs.

All four teams from the play-in stage will return to the action tomorrow, August 16 when only the winners of each series will get to go further into the playoffs lower bracket. The Playoff itself is set to commence Monday, August 17 with the first two elimination series.

Play-in stage schedule:

August 16:

Adroit vs EHOME.Immortal – 07:00 CEST/13:00 PST
Blaze vs Execration – 10:00 CEST/16:00 PST
