U.S. video game company Activision Blizzard Inc., publishers of Overwatch and Call of Duty, told its Versailles, France, employees on Tuesday that it will be shutting its doors, this according to a report by Bloomberg. The offices, which house approximately 300 employees that deal mostly with customer support in languages commonly found in Europe, will be closed, but employees have yet to hear if they will be laid-off or reassigned. According to Bloomberg, some of the employees were going to be given the option of transferring to the company’s London offices, but the plan was abandoned due to Brexit and COVID-19.
In 2019, after a record year of profit, Activision Blizzard laid-off hundreds of employees with 134 of those being from the Versailles office who took severance packages. It’s still unclear how many lay-offs will occur with the closing of these offices.
