It was a week for big events streams across Twitch. A new Marvel crossover hit Fortnite, Félix “xQc” Lengyel kicked off a Pokémon card unboxing collaboration, and Valorant wrapped up its first-ever championship competition.
Twitch’s Top Channel – xQc
Lengyel has long been a master of capitalizing on trends, putting his signature stamp on what’s happening on Twitch (or simply creating a trend himself in the case of chess). Opening old trading cards is its own extremely popular niche across both Twitch and YouTube, and this week Lengyel kicked off a week-long Pokémon unboxing event organized by fellow streamer Ludwig Ahgren. The unboxing stream helped push Lengyel up over 4.7M hours watched.
Other streamers including Imane “Pokimane” Anys will be doing their own unboxing streams this week and are sure to see similar viewership boosts from riding Lengyel’s hype train.
Twitch’s Top Content – Just Chatting
While Just Chatting once again dominated all Twitch content, surpassing 50M hours watched, Fortnite saw a unique surge in viewership thanks to a highly anticipated event in which Marvel Comics villain Galactus invaded the game. The event helped push Fortnite above League of Legends and reach 31.93M hours watched.
Also of note is the continuing downward trajectory of the Among Us trend. Falling to eighth place this week, it is unlikely we see a major resurgence of the game without a major new content update. Unless of course, Lengyel decides to revive the trend.
