The Brazilian branch of the French websites holding Webedia launched a Hearthstone tournament with sponsorship by the digital bank Digio. The Digio Desafio Hearthstone (roughly translated as Digio Hearthstone Challenge) will feature 8 invited pro players who will compete for a $20K BRL (approximately $3.5K USD) prize pool.
Webedia will broadcast the tournament through the Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch channels of MGG, its esports-focused website. The participants of the tournament will also be able to restream the matches on their personal channels. Hearthstone was the chosen game, according to Webedia, due to its popularity in Brazil in contrast to the little content produced for it in the country.
It is predicted by Webedia that the event will feature practical experiences to connect the audience to the sponsor during the event. Digio is a brand held by a partnership between Bradesco and Banco do Brasil, which are two of the main traditional banks in Brazil. Both have also invested in esports before individually, even another Bradesco brand recently partnered with the Brazilian organization Fluxo. With Digio, the expectative is establishing a long-term relationship with the gaming community.
