Despite being recently delayed for an indefinite amount of time, one Nintendo player's copy of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has unlocked for them early.
Last month, Nintendo announced that it was going to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp for an indefinite amount of time as a response to the crisis in Ukraine, saying, "In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04. Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date."
Twitter user killetheth Tweeted a picture of what appears to be one of the early tutorial screens in Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp, saying, "Fnally getting to play Advance Wars but only on my Switch Lite which had preloaded it prior to what happened!"
After being asked to record some gameplay footage of a game by several Twitter users, killetheth responded by showing a quick video of the tutorial in action. It's pretty clear that killetheth has a legitimate copy of the game.
As she mentioned in her first Tweet showing off the game, killetheth was able to gain access to their copy of the game by preloading it on their Switch Lite before it was indefinitely delayed and then never reconnecting it to the internet, which seems to have cancelled out the timer that Nintendo would have placed on it when it delayed the game.
Interestingly, killetheth has confirmed that Blue Moon, the fictional army that were made to resemble Russia, is still in the game, or at least still is in the preloaded version that she has access to. Other studios have removed references to Russia in their games since the Ukraine crisis, so it's not currently clear if Nintendo is going to be doing the same, although it might not feel the need to considering Blue Moon is a fictionalised representation of Russia.
