Apex Legends: Fuse Abilities Breakdown

Walter “Fuse” Fitzroy is creeping closer and closer to being fully playable in Apex Legends, and we cannot wait a single moment longer. Despite that, we shall have to, and Fuse is on his way in less than a week. Respawn has finally released the first Fuse gameplay trailer, and we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from his abilities, and from the new upcoming weapon, the 30-30 Repeater. Though we won’t be talking about that today: this is all about Fuse’s abilities in the Apex Games.

The trailer gave us a pretty good look at what we can expect from this brand new legend, though how his abilities will change the meta is still up in the air. What we can say for sure, though, is that we’re very excited to finally go hands-on with this explosive legend. For all the early details you need on his abilities, just read below.

Tactical Ability: Airburst Grenade

The Airburst Grenade is a small grenade that Fuse can fire from his right arm, and we see it being used once during the trailer. While it doesn’t appear to do much damage to the enemies it hits, it does seem to interrupt their aim as airborne explosions pop off around them. Explosions will surround targeted enemies like fireworks and will cause a hazard when trying to aim weapons.

My early conclusion is that this is to be used more of a distraction tactic to disorient and confuse opponents, throwing off their aim and focus, rather than a hostile grenade that you can expect to kill people with. Though, as with Bangalore’s Smoke Grenade, you shouldn’t rule out the possibility of it doing a little bit of damage on detonation.

Passive Ability: Grenade Launcher

The name of Fuse’s passive ability hasn’t actually been confirmed by Respawn quite yet, but no matter, we get the general idea. We see this near the end of the most recent trailer, and it appears to be a spring-loaded launcher that Fuse keeps in his arm for his grenades.

You’ll be using the same grenades as always – Frag, Thermite, and Arc Star – but now it seems that Fuse will be able to launch these grenades further, and much faster than ever before. We can pray that his grenades also get a damage buff, but that seems unlikely.

Ultimate Ability: The Motherlode

Fuse’s ultimate ability is known as The Motherlode and may seem familiar if you’ve been playing Apex Legends a lot lately. The Motherlode is a missile that detonates in mid-air, and spreads flames across the battlefield, wherever you choose. Flames do damage as legends touch and pass through them, and this can be used to cut off escape routes as legends attempt to move through the environment.

The full scope and potential of The Motherlode, and indeed all of Fuse’s abilities, is tough to call until we get to go hands-on with the legend in less than a week, but there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the new legend on the battlefield.
