It looks like previous rumours were accurate, as Assassin’s Creed Mirage is officially confirmed – with a trailer coming next week.
After multiple rumours pointed to the next Assassin’s Creed game being called Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft itself accidentally uploaded artwork related to its DLC, implying the rumoured name was accurate.
There was some question whether the artwork might have been fake but Ubisoft has responded to the leak by owning up to the game’s existence, confirming once and for all that the new game is titled Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Ubisoft has also promised that a proper reveal for the game will be shown at its next Ubisoft Forward presentation, which is scheduled for next week on Saturday, September 10.
The company had previously said that it would be discussing the future of the Assassin’s Creed series at the presentation, but it hadn’t clarified any exact details until now.
While we only have a name and a couple pieces of artwork to go off, everything about Assassin’s Creed Mirage so far appears to match up with previous rumours.
Aside from the name (which was originally codenamed Assassin’s Creed Rift), it was claimed that the new game would be set in Baghdad, which looks to be the case based on the artwork.
The leaked promotional artwork also confirms a Middle Eastern setting, although it’s unclear if the One Thousand and One Nights theme is only for the DLC or something that runs throughout the game.
As such, this means other rumoured details are likely accurate too. For instance, the main character is said to be Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character who was introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
This lends credence to the theory that Assassin’s Creed Mirage started out as another expansion for that game, before becoming its own thing.
It’s also claimed that the game will be ditching the role-playing elements of the more recent entries and will signal a return to the more stealth focused formula of the original games.
Apparently, the plan was to release it this year, but Ubisoft has already delayed it until summer 2023. If this is the case, we could see a release window given during the reveal next week.
This is likely meant as a stopgap until Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft’s live service platform for the series. Although it was announced last year, Ubisoft has shared next to nothing about it, apart from the fact that future games will be integrated with it.
Perhaps some information will be shared at Ubisoft Forward but Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed any other games for the presentation beyond Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next Assassin’s Creed game.
