Battlefield 2042 beta release date could get announced during EA Play Live 2021 today. The Battlefield 2042 test was due to take place this month, however EA recently revealed that this early chance to play Battlefield 2042 had been delayed to “later this summer”. EA said the Battlefield 2042 technical playtest had been pushed back as they build a cross-play function for the shooter, which is a feature that fans have been demanding.

Explaining the decision previously, EA said: “One of your most frequently asked questions is about cross-play. We can confirm it’s a function we’re looking to build and test for Battlefield 2042.

“To accommodate that, we’ve made the decision to move the Technical Playtest to later this summer so we’ll have the opportunity to test the cross-play functionality.

“This means a few thousand participants will join us to help us test some of our new features and functionality that we’re building from the ground up for Battlefield 2042. Do keep in mind that the Technical Playtest is purposefully not intended to be the full experience you will see in the Open Beta, or at launch. It is a development-led environment with only a subset of features, focused on technical performance.”

Battlefield 6: EA release teaser for ‘next generation technology’

With the Battlefield 2042 playtest scheduled to take place at some point this summer, an announcement during today’s EA Play Live 2021 event would make sense – timing wise.

We’ll have to wait and see whether that ends up being the case.

But in the meantime the official Battlefield Twitter account is teasing the reveal of a third mode for Battlefield 2042 during EA Play Live today.

EA and DICE have already announced the massive 128 player battle royale mode for Battlefield 2042, and also announced the more smaller scale Hazard Zone mode – which is a squad-based affair.

And leaks have claimed that the third, unannounced Battlefield 2042 mode will be called Battlefield Hub.

It’s been claimed this mode will be a sandbox experience with remastered maps from the series history.

While weapons and vehicles from across the Battlefield franchise history (and history in general) will all allegedly be playable in the same warzone.

This leak comes courtesy of Tom Henderson, who has an enviable track record of accuracy when it comes to Battlefield and COD leaks.

We’ll have to wait and see whether this ends up being the case, but Battlefield fans don’t have too long to wait to find out for certain.

The EA Play Live 2021 event kicks off later today (Thursday July 22) at 6pm BST.
