Battlefield 2042 Isn’t Going To Use The Infamous Santa Outfit

Following backlash from the community, it looks like Battlefield 2042 won't be using the leaked Father Winter skin for Boris.

Earlier in the week, a Battlefield 2042 leak revealed some Christmas-themed cosmetics, including a Santa costume for Boris called Father Winter. Considering the more serious nature of Battlefield and the current state of 2042, fans weren't happy about the inclusion and quickly took to social media to complain about the cosmetics, mostly focusing on the Father Winter skin.

EA has responded to the controversy through the Battlefield Comms Twitter account, revealing that it has "no plans to utilize" the skin this Christmas. From the way that EA worded it, it appears as if they originally planned to use the skins, but decided not to after all of the backlash that Battlefield 2042 has been receiving.

In response to the skins, EA said, "Today some of you accidentally got a glimpse of some Holiday themed cosmetics and we wanted to help clarify their intended usage. Development for Live Service requires us to work months in advance, and enables us to have options when we reach key moments in our first year. Today, we have other priorities, and so whilst we have the skins, we presently have no plans to utilize all of them this Holiday."

The statement continues, "We also create unique cosmetics for single-time use in special Battlefield Portal modes to further enhance the fantasy in special events. Throughout our live service, you may occasionally encounter these mode-locked cosmetics, which don't impact the rest of the game. It provides all of us working on #Battlefield with exciting new opportunities that let us explore with more creative freedom than before. Having you all along for the journey is something we don’t take for granted, and we’ll be grateful to hear your experience with those modes."

The Battlefield Twitter account then went on to share two gun skins to celebrate the holiday with, which feels like one step forward, two steps back considering the speech it had just made.
