Borderlands 3: All You Need To Know About Eridian Writing

This mysterious writing can be found early on in the game engraved on small stones throughout the various planets in Borderlands 3. Discovering each plate will lead to earning over 700 pieces of Eridium to spend on Mad Moxxi’s slots, skins for each class, and more powerful weapons back on Sanctuary III.

These valuable pieces of writing are unreadable through most of the game and the player will have to wait until collecting a certain item used to read the writing during a quest near the end of the campaign. Here is all you need to know about Eridian writing and how to decipher it.

Who Created The Eridian Stone Slabs?

The slabs were developed by the same race responsible for crafting various weapons in the Borderlands universe and also developed the Vaults that lead to Handsome Jack’s ultimate demise in the previous Borderlands installment.

Imprinted with the memories of the deceased Siren, Nyriad, the Vault Hunter will have to progress deeper into the story before discovering its secrets.

How Many Eridian Writing Slabs Are There?

In total, there are 30 Eridian Writing Slabs scattered throughout Borderlands 3. Finding them without the equipment required will activate a confused comment echoing from the Crimson Raider’s newest Vault Hunter. The stone pieces are located on Pandora, Promethea, Athenas, Eden-6, and Nekrotafyea. Finding each piece of writing will earn Sirens and Beastmasters the Tales From The Eridian Slab achievement.

How Can Players Translate Eridian Writing?

In order to translate the writing, the player will have to progress deeper into the campaign before being able to read the writing and collect the Eridian Analyzer. This piece of equipment interprets the unknown writing found and can only be earned during the nineteenth chapter nearing the end of the campaign. It can be picked up inside the vault on Pandora after the boss fight near the end of The Great Vault story mission.

To translate the writing using the analyzer, simply approach any piece of Eridian Writing and press the prompted button to inspect it. An icon will also appear on the mini-map for any slabs discovered before finding the analyzer. To track how many locations have been discovered, simply access the world map and tap L3. Reading the writing will reward the player with a batch of Eridium – 25 pieces to be exact.

What To Do With The Eridium Given

This shining purple currency can be used to purchase cosmetic items, decorations, ornaments and weapons from Crazy Earl on Sanctuary. It will also give players an excuse to visit Mad Moxxi on the ship and gamble away all their winnings at her Eridium slot machines. Reading the writing will also come with a collection of audio recordings to listen to while Skag guts rain down from the skies.
