Rather than wait for Destiny 3, Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will be coming to both the next gen consoles.
You might have thought this was the kind of thing that would’ve been announced during yesterday’s Xbox 20/20 showcase but Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 is coming to both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Unfortunately, they didn’t say any more than that and were just replying to a tweet from Xbox, so it was a pretty low-key announcement, with only the promise of ‘more details to come’.
The tweet they were replying to was a wall of logos, showing all the various companies supporting Xbox Series X – a now familiar part of any new console announcement – where you can clearly see their logo up in the top right-hand corner.
There’s no way they’d want to go years without any games on the new consoles, so some kind of port was inevitable. Although it remains to be seen whether it will offer any major improvement in terms of graphics and features.
Bungie were also very quick to get Destiny 2 on Stadia, including a free version of the game – which is also likely to be their approach with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Why they didn’t make the announcement yesterday, during Microsoft’s showcase, is a bit of a mystery though, as it was specifically for third party games, especially indie titles – which Destiny 2 technically now is.
