Fallout 76 Christmas Event 2019: Will Bethesda have another festive update?

Fallout 76 could do with some festive cheer to win back the support of its players.

After the disastrous announcement of its new subscription plan, which features Private Servers at an additional cost to players, there was somewhat of a backlash against the game.

Bethesda’s two-tiered scheme for subscriptions to a premium Fallout 76 service seemed to backfire on the company, drawing criticism for what seemed like a very ill-timed announcement for a game that, generally, has had a pretty rough ride.

So, now that Bethesda is going to want to recover from theFallout Firstfracas, what can the studio do to win back public opinion?

A Christmas event would do the trick, right?

“Dear Bethesda,” wroteYazmat8on reddit a year ago. “We need an event. Hunt down radiated Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, a Krumpus boss. Christmas decorations and outfits for completing the missions. A roaming super-mutant in a Santa outfit breaking down camps.”

Sounds good, right? After how well Bethesda has managed to fit seasonal events into the Fallout 76 universe so far, a Christmas event in the radiation-riddled wasteland doesn’t seem so off the wall, right?

The game’s site recently had a specialInside the Vaultbulletin celebrating the game’s first anniversary. Though there’s no mention of any festive events in the post, these tend to be monthly updates – meaning we could hear more in December.

There was an apology in the post noting that ‘going forwards’ there will be more communication regarding event timings for seasonal events.

That’s good news – it means there could be something coming sooner, rather than later.

So when can we expect to see a Christmas event come to Appleachia? Mid-December.

In the Inside the Vault post, Bethesda apologises for the early termination of the Halloween challenges and promises they’ll be back in the game soon.

“We are planning to re-enable all of them, including their rewards, in mid-December,” Bethesda notes. “Additionally, our next set of themed Challenges is slated to go live just a few days after that.”

That certainly sounds like a Christmas event to us.
