For some bizarre reason, Koei Tecmo has announced that it will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage by porting its sequel to mobile devices in Japan. Released a few years after the original, Ken’s Rage 2 added some extra characters and an online mode while downgrading pretty much everything else. It wasn’t the best sequel around and is a very curious pick for a port. What’s stranger is the choice of platform. I would have figured Switch would be ideal.
Developer Midas will be handling this new port with an expected release sometime in late 2020. Midas has previously worked with Square Enix to create a mobile version of Dragon Quest of the Stars for iOS and Android. That is probably why KT went with them for Ken’s Rage 2.
When the game does release on mobile platforms, it will be free-to-play with some in-app purchases. There’s likely to be a whole slew of cooldown timers and progress blockers that you can pay to get rid of. Considering how lousy the main game is, I’m not sure anyone should be saddened by this news. It seems par for the course here.
As Siliconera notes, the existence of the mobile version of Ken’s Rage 2 will likely fill the mystery slot that Koei Tecmo has for its Tokyo Game Show 2020 presentation. Anyone hoping to get more information about the next Dynasty Warriors or even Samurai Warriors likely won’t be getting that. At least we have Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
