Fortnite Old Map: Is Fortnite’s Old Map returning to the game for Season 3?

Epic Games recently pushed back the start date of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3.

Many gamers are hoping that the new, modified release date means that Epic will introduce more features this time around – making Season 3 one of the most exciting new periods the game has seen in years.

As ever, developer Epic Games has been keeping its cards pretty close to its chest when it comes to revealing information about the latest slate of content that's planned for the game, but that hasn't stopped online sleuths piecing information together to try and find out what's due to arrive in the title.

Here's what we know so far about Epic's potential Season 3 plans.

The most notable thing fuelling rumours of a revisit to the old Fortnite map comes from a new easter egg that was spotted during the Travis Scott event that occurred towards the end of April.

Oddly, a crystal butterfly appears towards the very end of the concert – a throwback to the old map (and the Season 6 event) which was replaced at the start of Chapter 2.

The butterfly – alongside the Cube and the Asteroid – has become a well-known Fortnite icon, and in its own way symbolises metamorphosis and change.

Could the inclusion of the butterfly be a subtle nod from Epic, hinting that something from the Travis Scott concert is linked to Chapter 1…. or is it simply Epic reusing assets?

Personally, I don't believe it's a hint at a return to the old map… instead, I think it could be an Epic tease that elements of previous seasons may return over the course of Chapter 2, and we'll continue using events to on-board them.

We don't have too long to wait to find out (in theory).

The Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3 release date has been set for early June, with Epic Games announcing the delay earlier in April:

“Hey all, we’re extending Chapter 2 – Season 2 of Fortnite beyond the original April 30 date. Our plan is to launch Chapter 2 – Season 3 on June 4," the developer said in a statement.

“Before then, there’s lots of content coming in the current Season. We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve!

“For continued updates on the new Fortnite Season and other plans, we’ll keep you up to speed here and on our social channels.”

We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
