Already a successful single-player adventure, Ghost Of Tsushima will be branching out into online co-op with an additional, free mode.
Ghost Of Tsushima may not have been a radical departure from the open world genre but, despite treading familiar ground, it has gone on to be a sales success for Sony and developer Sucker Punch.
So, it’s hardly surprising to learn that the game will be receiving additional content in the future in the form of a brand-new mode titled Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends, as announced on the PlayStation Blog.
Unlike the main single-player adventure, this mode will be multiplayer-only, with online co-op options for two to four players. It’s set to launch this autumn at no additional cost.
The update will also be a different beast in terms of story. Rather than put you in control of main character Jin and his allies, you will instead play as one of four legendary warriors, with a more fantastical setting to explore and enemies to fight, ones based on Japanese folk tales and mythology.
Each of the four characters has their own class – Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin – and you either take part in two-player story missions or fight waves of enemies with up to three other players in Survival missions, which will feature brand new ini enemies that are armed with supernatural powers.
Senior game designer Darren Bridges also confirmed that, shortly after Legends’ release, a four-player raid will be made available and will send players to a new realm, where a new enemy awaits.
Specific details regarding classes and new features are unknown for now, with the announcement trailer only offering very brief glimpses of gameplay.
Bridges has promised that these details will be discussed closer to the mode’s launch.
Ghost Of Tsushima is available exclusively for PlayStation 4.
