It won’t be long before you can play GTA 5 on Android phones thanks to Microsoft’s latest deal with Rockstar Games.

Having launched on a number of different platforms and currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X, fans might never have thought Grand Theft Auto 5 would arrive on mobile phones.

While Smartphones grow in power, there has never been any hint from Rockstar that they were interested in making such a project work.

And thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, gamers won’t need to keep waiting for such a port.

It has been announced this week that GTA 5 and GTA Online will be coming back to Xbox Game Pass.

But the big difference between this and an earlier launch is that GTA 5 Online will be available on consoles and Xbox Cloud.

This means that Grand Theft Auto will be playable on Xbox consoles and Android phones, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

And the best part is that gamers won’t have to wait long before they can avoid download and pick up their phone to pull off the latest heist.

According to the announcement shared by Microsoft, GTA 5 is coming to Android phones on Thursday, April 8.

And it’s not the only game that’s coming to the Project xCloud service this month, with Zombie Army 4, Disneyland Adventures and Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure also confirmed.

Then later in the month, gamers will be able to play Rain on Your Parade and MLB The Show 21.

To be able to play GTA 5 on Android phones, you will need to have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, as well as the Xbox Game Pass app downloaded on your phone.

Gamers will also want to make sure they have a compatible controller that they can use with GTA 5 on their smartphone, as it probably won’t be possible to use touchscreen.

GTA Online: Rockstar Games release teaser for brand new update

It should also be noted that your download speeds will need to be decent to avoid excessive issues with lag.

And like with all new technology, there is a chance of things not working quite as well as on consoles.

Xbox Game Pass for mobile is available in all regions that Game Pass is sold, but cloud gaming is currently only supported in the following regions:

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

More information on Xbox Cloud Gaming can be found here, courtesy of Microsoft:

“If you close the app from the Android app selector or let the app sit in the background, your session will time out within 15 minutes.

“If you choose to quit the session from the in-app menus, your session will end immediately.

Your in-game progress will be handled by the game itself (auto-saves, manual saves, etc.), so quitting the session or letting it time out means any unsaved game progress at that point would be lost.

“Cloud gaming is not currently supported on iOS devices. Also, while cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate may work on devices running modified, alternate, or emulated versions of Android OS, those systems are still being evaluated and players may see an unexpected or degraded play experience.”
