Grand Theft Auto V is an unstoppable juggernaut.
It’s a relentless, hungering beast, crushing other games underfoot as it marches on, tearing its way through record after record, printing money for Rockstar everywhere it goes.
Rockstar Games’ sandbox hit is the best-selling entertainment product in history: bigger than any film, album, TV show or game ever released by any other company. It’s bigger than Minecraft, bigger than The Avengers, bigger than Avatar.
And this week, it was revealed that Rockstar’s magnum opus is the best-selling game ever on both Xbox One and PS4… despite having initially been released on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Frankly, we think that’s madness.
This information comes from NPD Group – a firm that tracks video game sales in the US. On Monday, the company released an updated list of the best-selling games on each current-generation console, and (surprising no-one), GTA V sat on top of the Xbox One and PS4 charts.
You can check out the full lists below for yourself – note how the PS4 charts seem comprised of way more PS4-exclusive games than the Xbox One list… which has no Xbox Studios games in the top ten. Ouch.

This follows on from reports last year from MarketWatch, who noted that GTA V has sold nearly 110,000,000 copies in its lifetime.
The same report estimates that the game has also generated over $6 billion in revenue since its initial release back in 2013.
The game’s success began early: thanks to some extensive marketing and hugely positive critical reception, the game broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days.
With huge anticipation of GTA6 already starting to ferment, we’re expecting Rockstar’s dominance of the industry to continue for a long time to come.
