Guerrilla Shows Off Horizon Forbidden West PS4 Screenshots For The First Time

In case any of you might have forgotten, yes Horizon Forbidden West is coming not only to PlayStation 5 but also on the eight-year-old PS4 as well. Guerrilla has shown off screenshots from the last-gen version of the game, and they look stunning… although it remains to be heard whether fan noise may make your PS4 sound as if a spaceship is about to lift off.

The developer has released four Forbidden West screenshots captured on PS4 (not even PS4 Pro). To illustrate all the beauty of the sequel, the studio provided shots of several different regions of post-apocalyptic America, including green jungle with dense foliage, as well as scorching desert with an impressive draw distance.

Another detail that can't be ignored on these is the sky: the natural colouring and the clouds look very believable, creating the feeling of an adventure calling out. Perhaps the only thing that might show the last-gen source of these screenshots are the reflections in the water. Still, it seems like Horizon Forbidden West visuals will be top-notch even if you didn't get yourself a shiny new PS5 this year.

Sadly, the team didn't provide any comparison for the underwater sections in Forbidden West, which are going to be a big part of the sequel. As previously mentioned, those episodes are using different water rendering techniques on PS5, but we have to wait to see all the differences when the game arrives.

Sony is offering a free upgrade to the PS5 version of Horizon Forbidden West for PS4 owners of the game. But for any other PS4 games that are coming after Forbidden West, it'll cost you $10 to do so. Additionally, if you start playing the sequel on PS4, you'll be able to transfer your save games to PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West arrives on February 18 across PS5 and PS4. And if you're only about to begin your journey with Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn on PC while waiting for the follow-up, you can benefit from a recent update that brought DLSS and FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technologies support for better performance.
