Halo Infinite has been out for almost a month now, but only recently has Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto been able to really sink his teeth into the latest entry into the franchise. As the new game director for the Battlefield franchise, Lehto likely has a lot of work to do and really didn’t have time for Infinite until the holiday break. But now that he’s on break, we’re finding out what the man who made Master Chief thinks of the Halo Infinite.
To quote an old restaurant jingle, he’s lovin’ it.
"Hats off to my friends at 343,” wrote Lehto on Twitter. “Halo Infinite campaign brings back the magic of Halo. Really enjoying my time back with the Chief!"
Lehto was Halo: Combat Evolve's art director and one of the main architects of the entire Halo universe. He's also credited with creating Master Chief, the franchise's poster boy and one of the most recognizable characters in gaming.
Although Lehto has long since moved on from Bungie to head other projects (most recently his move to EA to bring direction to the beleaguered Battlefield franchise), Lehto has always had a soft spot for Halo. And even though he's a big fan of the game, he still seems to have trouble with Infinite's open-world sections.
"I’m having a rough time figuring out the objective priorities on the Halo Infinite map. Common problem or an OK Boomer issue?"
Before being hired by EA, Lehto had a lot of time on his hands, so he used it to recreate the Halo ring in Unreal Engine 4 over the summer along with Master Chief, the Battle Rifle, the Warthog, and several other characters and assets. He then gave all those assets to the Halo modding community on December 25. I guess that makes Lehto the Santa Clause of Halo.
