Looks like Sega’s mystery countdown was teasing a Judgment sequel as an icon for it was spotted on the Japanese PlayStation Store.
A couple of weeks ago, Sega opened a new website with a countdown timer for something called Judgment Day. Naturally, it was generally assumed that the publisher was teasing a sequel to 2019’s Yakuza spin-off Judgment.
The countdown will be ending today but, unfortunately for Sega, it appears the announcement has already been leaked thanks to the Japanese PlayStation Store.
As shared on Twitter by Wario64, a new icon can be seen on the store. It bears the title Lost Judgment (which also matches up with a trademark Sega filed back in March), as well as the face of Takayuki Yagami, the protagonist of Judgment.
Further investigation reveals that it will release for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with a digital deluxe edition to provide three days early access on September 21. This would mean the game is slated to release on September 24, at least in Japan. Apparently, it also comes with a season pass as well.
It’s also not clear whether Lost Judgment will release for any other platforms. The first game initially launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, with a remastered version only releasing very recently for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
Since the countdown website went live, various short clips have been shared online that are quite clearly not from the original Judgment, which only fuelled the likelihood that the announcement would be a sequel.
One clip in particular seems to take place in Yokohama, the city where Yakuza: Like A Dragon is primarily set. Could Yagami wind up crossing paths with some of Like A Dragon’s cast? Maybe even Ichiban Kasuga himself? It’s possible but the first game lacked any Yakuza cameos whatsoever. Not even fan favourite Majima popped out of a sewer to harass Yagami.
