Kirby And The Forgotten Land: The Most Difficult Treasure Road Stages

The Kirby series has mostly been framed as "Mario, but easier" for the majority of its existence. While the pink protagonist's ability to float certainly makes most things easier, there are still a lot of challenges in his way. Between formidable bosses and tough puzzles, you might find Kirby and the Forgotten Land more difficult than anticipated. One of the most challenging tasks, though, is mastering the Treasure Road stages.

These bite-sized levels allow Kirby to test out his newest abilities with challenging combat and platforming. You will earn valuable Rare Stones by completing them and can even earn some Star Coins for clearing the level within a certain time. Treasure Road stages will teach you new ways to use your powers, but some of them are more difficult than others.

10 Fling, Twirl, Return! Hit the Switches (Everbay Coast)

Cutter has been a staple of the Kirby series since he first gained copy abilities in Kirby's Adventure for the NES. When he has Cutter equipped, he can throw a blade or boomerang at an enemy to deal damage. This Treasure Road will test your skills with the upgraded version of the power, the Chakram Cutter.

This new ability allows Kirby to throw two blades instead of one, and they return to him from opposite directions. You will need to use both of these elements to quickly press a series of buttons to move on to the next area. The game doesn't give you much time to hit each one, as some of them reset after only a couple of seconds. Positioning Kirby in the right spot to accurately hit every button is the secret to success here.

9 Dig and Destroy! Drill Trial (Everbay Coast)

The Drill ability is one of the new powers Kirby can learn in the Forgotten Land. It has an attack that lets him hit enemies with the drill on his helmet, or he can burrow underground to damage enemies from below. It also has a very powerful third move that you learn about in this Treasure Road.

Quake Surge is a skill that Kirby can use by making a circle while digging underground. It damages everything inside the loop with a devastating blow. This trial will ask you to master the Quake Surge by defeating waves of enemies that tend to move outside Quake Surge's range.

8 Seek the Switches! Homing Bomb Hunt (Redgar Forbidden Lands)

Redgar Forbidden Lands is home to many of the most challenging Treasure Roads. One of the first ones you will encounter here involves learning how to use Kirby's Homing Bomb ability.

To clear this stage, you will need to throw bombs with precision at enemies to activate switches. Each time you clear an area, the platform Kirby is standing on rises to a more difficult room. What makes this task even harder is that you will have to evade incoming attacks and time your throws perfectly to clear this level before the target time.

7 Whirl ‘Em Away! Storm Tornado Trial (Redgar Forbidden Lands)

This Treasure Road is relatively easy at the beginning. Like many other stages, Kirby will need to master his powerful Storm Tornado to take down waves of enemies. To clear the target time, you will need to defeat everyone in less than ninety seconds.

Taking down common enemies with this ability is simple, as most of them only require a single hit from Kirby before disappearing. In the final area before the Rare Stone though, he will have to take down two Fleurina, a mini-boss, simultaneously.

6 Toss ‘Em! Hit the Bomb Blocks (Wondaria Remains)

Despite being an earlier version of the Homing Bomb Hunt Treasure Road, this stage is somehow even more difficult. You will have many of the same objectives – defeating enemies and hitting buttons – but this time you won't have the homing function available for your bombs.

Using only the base bomb ability means that Kirby can't rely on the explosives to find their own way to their destination. You will need to position him in incredibly specific areas to hit his targets and avoid obstacles like the thorny Gordo Bars.

5 Stop Time! Slow-World Scramble (Winter Horns)

Kirby has a large selection of attacks to use at any given time, but none of them feel quite as powerful as Time Crash. You can only use it once after obtaining it, but after fully charging it without interruption, it will stop time itself and allow you to deal massive damage to enemies while they're frozen.

This Treasure Road stage is supposed to teach you how to use Time Crash effectively, but it doesn't provide enough information in the instructions. After a few attempts you might stumble into figuring out how to use it and clear the level, but it can be frustrating to constantly fail the mission due to its ten-second time limit.

4 Wash ‘Em Away! Slippery Parade (Originull Wasteland)

Mouthful Mode is one of the clever new mechanics in Forgotten Land and this trial will test how well you can use Kirby's Water-Ballon Mouth. The little hero can somehow drink enough water to fill himself up with it and use it to attack enemies and put out any fires in his way. It's pretty incredible, and kind of gross.

To clear this stage, Kirby will need to fill up on as much liquid as possible, and clear obstacles to reach the finish line. What makes this even more difficult is that you will need to spray water at a button that activates platforms to line up parade floats to clear a path forward.

3 Attack! Masked Hammer Trial (Redgar Forbidden Lands)

Many of the Treasure Roads in Forgotten Land merely require Kirby to take out waves of bad guys with a new ability or skill. The Masked Hammer Trial is another of these, but this time you must face more enemies and mini-bosses using one of the final powers.

Wielding dual hammers while wearing a boar's mask sounds like something out of Elden Ring, but this is how Kirby enters the stage. You will need to be able to dodge and attack strategically to make it to the end of the level without losing all of your health. Clearing it under the Target Time also presents a more formidable challenge for anyone looking to accomplish everything in the game.

2 Step it Up! Moving the Stairs (Everbay Coast)

While Stairs Mouth kind of sounds like an awful dental condition, it's actually another one of Kirby's handy Mouthful Modes! By stretching his mouth over a set of stairs, he can move them to reach new heights or hold down buttons.

Moving the Stairs appears relatively early in the game and quickly becomes one of the more infuriating Treasure Roads. You will need to use Stair Mouth to move sets of stairs around like a slide puzzle, and eventually push down a series of buttons to progress. There are many sets of stairs per area, and it's hard to maneuver around them correctly to finish the stage before time runs out.

1 Kirby, the Master of Mouthfuls! (Redgar Forbidden Lands)

One of the very last Treasure Roads Kirby faces will be the ultimate test of his Mouthful Mode ability. You will need to use a variety of his slobbery objects to clear the stage and claim the title of Master of Mouthfuls (if that's something you want).

It may the most difficult stage to clear, but it's also one of the most fun to play through multiple times. Bouncing between Cone Mouth to Vending Mouth as quickly as possible to beat your previous recorded time is exhilarating and truly feels like a platforming section right out of Super Mario Odyssey. If HAL Laboratory decided to make a Kirby spin-off game similar to Captain Toad, having an entire adventure with levels like these could be phenomenal.
