Naughty Dog hiring staff to ‘close out’ The Last Of Us Part II development

The release date for the PS4’s most anticipated exclusive remains a mystery, as Naughty Dog go on a recruitment drive.

With Sony not attending E3 this year one of the biggest questions that’s going to go unanswered is when The Last Of Us Part II is being released.

Sony and developer Naughty Dog have avoided giving any assurances and although there seems a reasonable chance it will be this year nobody really knows.

Naughty Dog has been offering some clues recently though, with a tweet saying they’ve finished filming the final cut scene, and now a job ad for people to help ‘close out’ development.

The tweet, from co-director Anthony Newman, can be read either way, either as an indication that the game is on the final stretch or that there’s still a considerable amount of work to be done.

If the story elements are finished, as indicated by the cut scene tweet, then that suggests things are going well.

But two of the jobs mentioned are a level and environment designer and a narrative designer/writer, which don’t sound like the sort of thing you’d normally advertise for if a game was only a few months from completion.

With six months or so to go until a possible Christmas release there is still time for the game to be finished this year, but Naughty Dog are not ones to rush things and based on these new job ads it sounds like a 2019 release is far from guaranteed.
