Nintendo Announces "Royal" Smash Ultimate Online Tournament Beginning August 21

The next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event will involve a clash of kings and queens, as it will be centered around royal characters and stages.

There are many video game franchises that use fantasy settings that are inspired by medieval Europe. As such, the world of video games is littered with kings, queens, princes, princesses, and enemies that want to depose them. The first Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda games on the NES were focused on saving the lives of Princesses, which is a trend that continues to this very day.

The next event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be the “A Most Regal Battle” tournament, which is due to run from August 21 to August 24. The only characters that can be used in the event are Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Bowser, Princess Zelda, Marth, Lucina, Ganondorf, Chrom, King Dedede, Bowser Jr., Corrin, and King K. Rool. This was announced on the SmashBrosJP Twitter page, as well as in an update sent to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate dashboard.

The stages that will be used for the tournament are Peach’s Castle, Hyrule Castle, Princess Peach’s Castle, Castle Siege, Suzaku Castle, and Dracula’s Castle. The rules for the tournament are that the battles will be timed matches that last for two and half minutes, with the FS Meter switched on and items set to medium. The further the player reaches in the tournament, the rarer the spirit they will receive.

The “A Most Regal Battle” event only contains characters from three different Nintendo franchises, as members of royalty are more often NPCs than player characters. It’s mostly denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, and the countries of the Fire Emblem series that have royals who pull up their sleeves and get to work. The fans who love those characters will soon have a chance to pit these monarchs against each other in the ring.

The “A Most Regal Battle” event will take place in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from August 21 until August 24.
