Nintendo news: Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port teased? Shock Rockstar update

Nintendo Switch gamers have been delivered some surprise Red Dead Redemption 2 news. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the biggest games of this generation, and the only title Rockstar Games has built from the ground up for this gen. Released last year on PS4 and Xbox One, before coming to PCs and Google Stadia – RDR2 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of recent years.

The Switch is one format that RDR2 hasn’t featured on, with the only Rockstar Games title so far heading to the hybrid console being LA Noire.

But Nintendo fans have been left wondering if this could be about to change after something curious was spotted in the RDR2 files.

As revealed in a post by Rockstar Games insider Tezfunz2, an icon for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller was spotted in RDR2 textures recently.

Tezfunz2 tweeted: “Nintendo Switch Controller found in #RDR2 textures.”

It’s not clear why this has been added to the Red Dead files, with fans wondering if it could be a sign of a surprise inbound Switch port.

One tweeted: “If Red Dead 2 is ever ported to the Switch, Ima (sic) buy one ASAP”.

Another posted: “So Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch?”

While one added: “Nintendo Switch?”

But others were left thinking it was just a sign that the PC version of Red Dead 2 could be getting Switch Pro Controller support.

One RDR2 fan tweeted: “Rip to the Switch performance. Ain’t no way it will ever be able to run this game.

“I’d say it’s just an option to use the controller which is odd”.

And another wrote: “Likely controller support for Switch Pro controllers on PC version.”

This isn’t the first time that the Switch has been linked with a surprise port of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Earlier this year major US retailer Target listed Red Dead Redemption 2 as coming to the Nintendo Switch.

This listing was quickly removed after it initially went live on its website, but not before eagle-eyed fans spotted it.

Elsewhere fans were left wondering if Rockstar Games were testing out for a Switch RDR2 release following the launch of update 1.06.

This downgraded the RDR2 graphics, Dexerto reported in a post online, which left fans wondering if the visuals rollback was to test for a Switch launch.

It remains to be seen if Red Dead Redemption 2 could get a surprise Switch release and whether GTA 5 could also come to Ninty’s console.

It wouldn’t be the first time one of the most impressive games of this gen has somehow managed to get a port on Nintendo’s latest console.

Last year a surprise port of The Witcher 3 was released, cramming CD Projekt Red’s huge open-world game onto a single Switch game cart.
