You might not be able to pre-order a PlayStation 5 at the moment but at least you now know what the box will look like when it finally arrives.
PlayStation 5 pre-orders have already run out everywhere in the UK (well, it’s hard to tell about Currys PC World as their pre-order site has been down all morning) but if it helps this is what the boxes will look like if you do actually manage to buy one.
The white one is the standard PlayStation 5 and the black one is the PlayStation Digital Edition – the cheaper console without a disc drive.
As revealed last night, the PlayStation 5 will launch first in North America, Asia, and Australasia on 12 November. It’ll then come to the rest of the world, including the UK, on 19 November – although the packaging is assumed to be the same everywhere.
It’s hard to tell at the moment whether the pre-orders selling out so quickly are as result of unusually high demand or a lack of stock, but it’s probably a bit of both.
New consoles commonly sell out at launch, but it’s unusual to see them disappear quite so quickly, with many stores hoping to get in more allocations before launch.
The Xbox Series X box has already been revealed, but its pre-orders won’t go live until Tuesday, 22 September – unless Microsoft decides to move up its plans because of Sony.
An image of the Xbox Series S box has also appeared recently, with the cheaper console also expected to be available for pre-order next week.
