PlayStation 5 stock shortages could be a thing of the past, at least in the short term.
Ever since the PS5 launched last November, customers have had a hard time getting hold of the console at retail.
Nine months on, and despite a steady stream of restocks, PlayStation 5 consoles tend to sell out almost instantly.
As previously revealed by Sony, manufacturing has been affected by a lack of semiconductors, which has led to the aforementioned stock shortages.
Fortunately, however, the shortages could be a thing of the past. According to Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki (via VGC), the company has secured enough parts to meet sales targets.
“The shortage of semiconductors has impacts in various areas and through various measures, we have been taking some action,” Totoki revealed.
“For PS5, the target has been set for the number of units to be sold this year, and we have secured the number of chips that is necessary to achieve that. Regarding the supply of semiconductors, we are not concerned.”
With Sony hoping to sell 14.8 million units by March 2022, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to secure a console soon.
While it’s good news for now, there are reports that semiconductor issues could crop up once again.
This means stock shortages could return next year, and may last for quite some time.
In the meantime, if you want to give yourself the best possible chance of securing a console, it’s worth bookmarking some of the more popular stock checker accounts.
This includes Digital Foundry Deals, Stock Informer, PS5 UK Stock – Instant Updates, and Express Gaming.
If you do manage to get hold of a PS5 then you’re in for a treat, because there are some fantastic games coming soon.

Players control an assassin trapped in an mysterious timeloop on the island of Blackreef. The only way to avoid playing the same day over and over again is to assassinate eight targets before the day resets.
“Learn from each cycle – try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop.”
