Videogames like Civilization, Age of Empires and The Sims have always been popular strategy titles because, in essence, you get to become a god of your own little universe. If you’re a fan of these sorts of titles and enjoy support Kickstarter crowd-funding campaigns then you may want to check out Roosevelt Games’ GODS.
Mixing both real-time strategy (RTS) and role-playing game (RPG) elements, GODS is a multiplayer experience where players can build a civilization, fight rival gods, and bring powerful creatures to life. On the multiplayer side, there will be death matches, two vs. two or creature battle tournaments, while in single-player gods will be able to possess characters (creature, villagers, soldiers, etc.) to complete quests in a third-person mode.
Currently confirmed are ten gods to fight against, while the story mode has three islands to play through. Each island features at least 20 characters and each character features three-five quests or challenges. Players will be able to choose from nine village types – Halflings, Wizards, Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Egyptians, Vikings, Greeks and Romans. Each come with their own advantages, so the Wizards, for example, can open portals or imprison a creature, while Orcs can reproduce at a massive rate.
GODS isn’t just about fighting. Before you can do that you need to build houses, temples, barracks, archery range, watchtowers, granary and fields. Then plant trees, create waterfalls, and construct animal breeding grounds. Being a god you can cast miracles like wood, food, iron, water, rain, healing, and shield, or cast curses such as fire, lightning, storm, flood, plagues and meteor strikes.
For the Kickstarter, Roosevelt Games is looking to raise $25,000 USD, with the campaign currently at just over $5,000. Pledges start from as little as $25, which will get backers a digital copy of the videogame and beta access (PC only). Spending more will get backers extras like Alpha Access (PC only), their name in the credits and more. GODS is set to feature wide-ranging support including support Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR.
The campaign has 22 days to go. Should GODS succeed in its funding quest then VRFocus will let you know.
