We’re hitting trailer after trailer as we barrel towards the release of Hitman 3. First, it was a look at Hitman 3’s updated game engine complete with new lighting, water effects, and next-gen features like 4K resolution and HDR, and then it was the new gameplay mechanics like a hacking camera, mastery track gear, and ratings for each and every successful mission based on your skill and playstyle.
Now we return to the plot of Hitman 3 with the latest opening cinematic trailer. As expected, Hitman 3 basically picks up after the events of Hitman 2. Lucas Grey, the former “Shadow Client,” has teamed up with Agent 47 in his crusade against Providence, a shadowy cabal that secretly controls the world’s affairs.
The two have tracked down two of Providence’s forming Partners to the Burj Al-Ghazali tower in Dubai, a fictional stand-in for the real-life Burj Khalifa tower, the tallest free-standing structure in the world.
At a height of 828 meters, it’s absolutely tall enough to require Agent 47 and Grey to don breathing apparatus to skydive onto the tower to continue their plan to murder Carl Ingram and Marcus Stuyvesant at a social gathering inside. Their success will probably depend on the player’s skill at planning an escape as there isn’t really an emergency exit when you’re almost a kilometer in the sky.
Agent 47 actor David Bateson has promised Hitman 3 will have a “vast” and “in-depth” plot in comparison with previous entries into the series. He compared the game’s story to something from a Hollywood movie with “some pretty shocking stuff going on, in a good sense.” Sounds pretty good if the story is even half as dramatic as the opening cinematic here.
Hitman 3 comes out on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC (via Epic Games Store), Switch, and Stadia on January 20, 2021. You can also get a next-gen upgrade absolutely free.
