Shawn Ashmore Wants A Quantum Break Sequel

Up until Sea of Thieves came along in 2018, Quantum Break was Xbox Studios' (at the time, Microsoft Studios) best-selling game. It featured bleeding-edge graphics and a cool time manipulation mechanic that let you witness those graphics in slow motion–or speed them up, or even freeze them in place. Plus, Remedy Entertainment got actor Shawn Ashmore to play the role of hero Jack Joyce, who gains the ability to manipulate time after a failed science experiment.

Remedy has since moved on from Quantum Break to make sequels to Alan Wake and Control, but Ashmore thinks that Remedy should give Quantum Break another try. In response to a tweet from fans, Ashmore said "I say 👍🏻" to a Quantum Break sequel.

In addition to voicing Jack in the game, Ashmore also lent his likeness to the character, even starring as Jack in the in-game TV series that played in between the game's episodes. These extended cutscenes told the story of the game's antagonist, Paul Serene (played by Aidan Gillen) who also gained time powers from the failed science experiment, only he got a lethal dose of "chronon radiation" that also let him see into the future. The five episodes reveal Serene was working towards preventing the "end of time," an apocalyptic event that destroys the universe.

The expansive cinematic scope is something few games have even attempted since Quantum Break, but probably seems very appealing to an actor like Ashmore. Sadly, Remedy seems unlikely to resurrect Quantum Break anytime soon as the company is working on Alan Wake 2 as well as two Control games, codenamed Condor and Heron. Heron is still in the concept phase as of last October, and Condor will be a cooperative PvE game of some kind.

A franchise Microsoft does plan to resurrect is Fable, which was confirmed back in 2020. We haven't heard much about the project since then, so fans have decided to vote for their wishlist of features online.
