The popular streamer Ludwig just announced the launch of a brand new Super Smash Bros. tournament called The Scuffed World Tour in response to the recent cancellation of the Smash World Tour. The content creator has even promised a total prize pool of $50,000 along with a free flyout for each of the participating players.
The unofficial tournament known as the Smash World Tour was called off earlier this week in the wake of Nintendo withdrawing support for the event, saying in a statement how “any partner that we grant a license to has to meet the high standards we require when it comes to the health and safety of our fans.”
Nintendo went on to describe how “it’s also important that a partner adheres to brand and intellectual property guidelines and conducts itself according to professional and organizational best practices.” The company offered no further information as to why the Smash World Tour was unable to meet these guidelines.
Ludwig was quick to fill the gap left by Nintendo, launching The Scuffed World Tour in response to the cancellation of the Smash World Tour. This will be taking place in just a couple of weeks on December 18, 2022. The tournament is going to be a one day event featuring both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
According to the content creator, The Scuffed World Tour will feature “the eight highest placing Smash World Tour competitors, all with the goal to raise money for the Video Game Boot Camp,” described as “the leading live streamer and content creator" within the competitive Super Smash Bros. community.
