The Witcher Season 2 is already in the wild if you somehow missed all the hype, and it has a little present for fans of Sapkowski's universe. The show ends with the first-ever Blood Origin teaser — an upcoming spin-off set hundreds of years before the original series.
Netflix hasn't officially shared the footage on its channels just yet, but since Season 2 is already available to watch on the service, the Blood Origin trailer has made it on the web. The video offers a first look at the lead cast, including Michelle Yeoh as Scían, Laurence O'Fuarain as Fjall, Mirren Mack as Merwyn, Sophia Brown as Éile, and more.
The Witcher: Blood Origin has plenty of beautiful untouched landscapes of the Continent, full of unique landmarks — just look at those peaceful waterfalls or the oddly glowing sky. Another thing that is worth mentioning is a brief battle with a heavy resemblance to The Fellowship of the Ring's Moria standoff. Then there are the costumes, weapon, and armor sets, perfectly suitable for cosplaying. Just more of The Witcher's world for fans to dig their teeth into.
Blood Origin's events take place 1,200 years before the main show, so we won't see Geralt, Yennefer, or any other familiar faces here. Instead, the project dives deep into the story of the very first witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal "conjunction of the spheres," uniting the worlds of monsters, elves, and men together.
Despite the pretty intriguing premise, some fans are unhappy with the first Blood Origin teaser, arguing that it has little to no relation to The Witcher, offering a sort of average fantasy appearance and completely new characters. But that's how prequels go – it's not going to be directly connected like Vesemir's own prequel. It's there to explain how this world came about, introducing us to a whole new cast we're unfamiliar with. If you want to understand more about The Witcher universe, Blood Origin will be right up your alley.
The Witcher: Blood Origin mini-series is coming to Netflix in 2022 and will comprise of six episodes.
