These Are Your Final Two Weeks To Play GTA Online On PS3 And Xbox 360

Even though Rockstar hasn't launched a new and original game in the series since 2013, it's a busy old time for Grand Theft Auto right now. The Trilogy, which includes remastered versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, launched last month, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA 5 will be here in Match 2022. If you're still playing GTA 5 on the consoles it was originally created for, you might want to invest in a next-gen copy when it's available.

That's because later this month, the servers for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be permanently shut down. Rockstar announced that the servers for the game's OG versions would be no more before the end of 2021 earlier this year. Now that time is almost upon us, and if you are one of the few still playing on those platforms, you have until December 16 to wrap things up.

GTA Online players on the older platforms haven't been able to purchase Shark Cards since September 16. That's the same day as the server for the PS3 versions of other Rockstar games such as Max Payne 3 and LA Noire were permanently shut down. Website stat tracking for those two games is also no more, and the same fate will befall GTA Online come December 16 so you might want to take a few screenshots now before you lose those high scores forever.

The good news is this isn't some sort of GTA CBOMB situation. Once December 16 has come and gone, your original copies of GTA 5 will not become obsolete. The game's offline story mode will still be playable so you can run around Los Santos as Franklin, Trevor, and Michael to your heart's content.

The bad news, other than the servers shutting down, is that you won't be able to transfer anything across to newer versions of the game. All of the money you have, progress you've made, and properties you own will be lost forever. If you haven't played GTA 5 on a newer platform, then you'll need to start over from scratch. That might sound like fun to some of you, but a nightmare that will keep you away from the game forever after December 16.
