Xbox Series S stock has returned to Amazon UK for £249.99. Amazon Prime members can also receive next-day delivery. Although Xbox Series S stock has been steadily arriving at UK retailers in the last few weeks, nearly all consoles have immediately sold out.
The demand for Microsoft’s Xbox Series S, which is the cheaper and smaller console in the series, has been greater than for the Xbox Series X. Retailers expect the demand for the Xbox Series S to remain high until the end of 2021, especially since games like Halo Infinite are pending release and the console is compatible with Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming.
The more affordable all-digital Xbox Series S enables next-gen gaming at 1440p resolution and up to 120fps for significantly reduced load times and enhanced visuals, yet has a smaller SSD than the Xbox Series X, so additional storage may be needed in the future for active gamers.
In addition, UK retailer Box.co.uk plans to restock Xbox Series X despite supply shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The retailer uses a ballot system with sign-ups for a chance to purchase the console. Box.co.uk then selects a number of buyers who can purchase an Xbox Series X without rushing to check out.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox Series X and Series S have outsold its predecessors at launch. More consoles were sold in the first 24 hours, in more countries, than any Microsoft console before. The Xbox Series S also added the most new players for any Xbox console at launch. Previously, the Xbox One sold more than one million units in its first 24 hours.
Xbox CFO Tim Stuart has stated that stock shortages are expected to continue through the first quarter of 2021, as the company’s supply chain is expected to be up to full capacity by the second quarter of the year. The supply shortage of has resulted in price gouging and scalping on Internet sites, with consoles sold for as much as $5,000.
