Fantina, Hearthome City gym – Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl guide

Fantina is the fifth gym leader in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and she’s a ghost-type specialist in Hearthome City. Our Hearthome gym leader guide will assist you by listing out her party and recommending counters that you can find nearby.

Hearthome City gym challenge

To get to Fantina, you’ll need to correctly answer some simple math questions by entering the door with the corresponding answer. If you go into the wrong door, you’ll have to fight a trainer. That being said, if you need to grind more, answering wrong on purpose may be a good idea.

Fantina’s Pokémon

Fantina uses ghost-type Pokémon, and they love to use Confuse Ray. She uses the following:

  1. Drifblim, level 32, ghost/flying
  2. Gengar, level 34, ghost/poison
  3. Mismagius, level 36, ghost

Note that her Gengar’s ability is Levitate, meaning that no ground-type moves will hit it at all.

Fantina counters

Fantina’s specialty type is annoying, as ghost-types are only weak against ghost- and dark-type moves. You shouldn’t typically use another ghost-type against her, since she’ll also deal super effective damage to your Pokémon, but you can if your ghost-type Pokémon is faster than hers.

Dark-type Pokémon can be hard to come by, but many Pokémon learn the Bite dark-type move as they level up. You can take advantage of Drifblim’s dual flying-type to use electric-type moves against it, too.

You can find some counters in the following locations:

  • Gastly, ghost
    Underground
  • Pikachu, electric
    Underground

While you can find these Pokémon in these routes, they should be evolved to at least
