Zelda rhythm adventure, Cadence of Hyrule, coming on June 13

The Link’s Awakening remake isn’t the only Zelda game coming this year. Cadence of Hyrule is a musical take on Nintendo’s franchise from the developer of Crypt of the Necrodancer. After being announced several months ago for Nintendo Switch, the game finally has a release date: this Thursday, June 13.

Cadence of Hyrule uses the same rhythm-based roguelike gameplay of Crypt of the Necrodancer. If you never played that game, the idea is to move and act on the beat of the game’s soundtrack, dealing bonus damage for keeping good time. It’s wholly original concept, so it’s especially cool to see Nintendo willing to implement it into their classic franchise.

It opens up the potential for more Nintendo franchises to get some indie love in the future. Metroid meets Super Meat Boy? Or maybe a Kirby cooking simulator? There’s really no telling what the future holds with the potential for these wild spin-offs.
