Time loop thriller Twelve Minutes coming to PC, Xbox One in 2020

Twelve Minutes, the Groundhog Day-esque adventure game from indie developer Luis Antonio, is coming to Windows PC and Xbox One in 2020. A new trailer debuted at Microsoft’s E3 press briefing earlier today.

Indie publisher Annapurna Interactive, which has released critically acclaimed titles such as What Remains of Edith Finch, Gorogoa, Donut County, and Outer Wilds, has picked up Twelve Minutes and will publish it.

Here’s a synopsis of Twelve Minutes from Annapurna:

In Twelve Minutes, players take on the role of a husband, dropped into what should be a romantic evening with his wife. The night turns into a nightmare when a police detective breaks into their home, accuses the wife of murder and beats the man to death. Then, players find themselves immediately returned to the exact moment the man opens his front door, stuck in a twelve minute time loop and doomed to relive the same terror again and again. Players must find a way to use the knowledge of what’s coming to change the outcome and break the loop.

Antonio, a veteran of AAA development at Rockstar and Ubisoft, began developing Twelve Minutes years ago while he was working as an artist on The Witness. I tried an early build of the game ages ago, and called it “the most interesting game I played at PAX East 2015.”
