Cyberpunk 2077 developer says multiplayer won’t be available until after 2021

Following the delay of Cyberpunk 2077 from April into September of this year, developer CD Projekt Red says the game’s multiplayer component likely won’t surface until “after 2021.” The news comes as part of an investor question-and-answer session published online.

An investor on the call asked Michał Nowakowski, a member of CD Projekt’s board of directors and the senior vice president of business development, whether we should expect the multiplayer game in 2021. Nowakowski said that was “unlikely.”

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and frankly speaking of the series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer,” Nowakowski said.

The multiplayer component for Cyberpunk 2077 was first mentioned in 2013, only to resurface formally in September 2019 when CD Projekt finally confirmed it was in development. During today’s call, Nowakowski also confirmed the multiplayer component is the AAA game that his team has been working on concurrently for some time.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now scheduled for release on September 17 for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
