The story of Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories focuses on a young Japanese businessperson who tries to escape a destroyed city amid the chaos of a major earthquake. As they flee to safety, they encounter other survivors whom they can choose to aid as the player contends with collapsing buildings, fires, and other threats. Players also need to tend to injuries, cleanliness, and other biological needs as they fight for survival in the heat of a Japanese summer.

Disaster Report 4 was originally developed as a PlayStation 3 game, but was delayed and initially canceled due to the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011. In 2015, developer Granzella announced it was reviving the game after acquiring the rights to the series from publisher Irem.

The Disaster Report series began as a PlayStation 2 game, Zettai Zetsumei Toshi (The Desperate City), that came to the West as Disaster Report from publisher Agetec. Disaster Report 4 was first released on PS4 in 2018; a Switch version is coming to Japan this September.
