Fans reacting to Sekiro’s most bizarre trap is perfection

FromSoftware, the developers of Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and now Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, have always trolled their fans with surprise enemies. While From fans always expect to learn through death, players have found a new enemy in Sekiro that may take the cake for most creative encounter.

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the first 10 hours of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. If you haven’t reached the Castle region, turn back now.]

In the Ashina Castle region, there’s a large town with loads of enemies on the ground — leaving the rooftops as the best area of approach. Here, assassins dressed like owls wait behind corners, or perch on the edges of the roofs. One assassin in particular takes some extra initiative and hides in the clouds. To the delight of viewers, this assassin is the perfect catch for ruining streamers’ runs.

The video below from SaneTBD on YouTube demonstrates that perfectly.

In actuality, the assassin is hiding on a kite attached to the side of the castle. It’s only slightly less impressive than hiding in the clouds themselves. When players reach a certain threshold on the rooftop, the assassin leaps off the kite, plummets to the earth, and, hopefully, into the player.

The attack deals as much damage as you’d expect a full grown owl-man with a keychain of knives landing on you to do. At the time most players reach this area, it’s usually enough damage to kill them immediately. If not, it’s enough to make the next fight much harder.

Players can dodge the kite ninja if they know he’s coming. But all players — even and especially streamers — have to die to him at least once. It’s the new Sekiro rite of passage. And as the video above shows, he’s already claimed quite a few victims.
